Home Care, Start Your Engines!

• Michelle Rogers, Health First Homecare

In this kickoff session, Michelle Rogers of Health First Homecare will take us around the first lap of today’s sessions. Just as the “high groove” takes a car closer to the outside wall for most of the lap, while the “low groove” takes a car closer to the apron than the outside wall, so too will Michelle start us up. She will welcome attendees and set the tone for a motivating, educating, and engaging program. Essentially waving the green flag, Michelle will provide an overview of our industry, issues, and statistics, as well as how HCAF is leading the pack for providers with these challenges and turbo-launch us into the day of learning and networking ahead.

8:40-9:55 AM

Home Care is a Team Sport

• Maureen P. Albertson, Millennium Home Care

Do you feel like you and your staff are driving around in circles? How prepared are you when trouble is at your door or quarter panel? Do you have productive and positive communication between your control tower and the pit crew? Join Maureen Albertson of Millennium Home Care and HCAF's Region 8 Board of Directors representative for insights into her experience with Hurricane Ian, which translates well to any team-building and problem-solving issue that might arise in your home care business. In Florida, it’s not a matter of “if” your agency will face an urgent situation, but “when”. Maureen will share drama-free methods to prepare your team now so that you can stay on the racecourse and actually find “calm during the storm” knowing and trusting that your team and processes are in place, and you will conquer the issue at hand.

9:55-10:10 AMMorning Break (refreshments provided)
10:10 AM-11:00 PM

Rev, Rev, Rev Your Revenue Cycle Management for the Year Ahead!

• Todd Montigney, SimiTree

Happy New Year! With shrinking margins, rising inflation, and increasing payor complexities, now is the perfect time of year to think about shifting the strategic planning of your revenue cycle management into high gear! Let’s hit the track with Todd Montigney of SimiTree and start tracking the revenue for our patients even before the intake process begins, all the way through to the final payment on their accounts. Learn how to keep your eyes on the road and execute and manage all the administrative and operational functions that contribute to the capture and collection of patient revenue. Special insights and cautionary road signs to watch for will be highlighted for each step of the process, making you the champion of collecting all the revenue you are entitled to.

11:10 AM-12:30 PM

OASIS-E: Where the Rubber Meets the Road

• Apryl Swafford, SimiTree

Join Apryl Swafford of SimiTree for this Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) and patient engagement session geared for the home health agency leadership level. With the national rollout of Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) and the first performance year underway, the OASIS-E assessment is where the “rubber meets the road”. Your staff can’t afford to “spin their wheels” with a hands-free, interview approach when completing this document. Clinicians must utilize effective techniques to actively engage patients and assess them with their “wheels in motion”. This will “jump start” effective, individualized care planning in order to best capture a patient’s status at the start of care as well as their progress towards the “finish line”. In turn, your agency will demonstrate better outcomes and avoid leaving reimbursement dollars on the table.

Off to the Races With HHVBP & PDGM

• Melinda Gaboury, Healthcare Provider Solutions
• Chris Attaya, Strategic Healthcare Programs

Combine the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Home Health Value-Based Purchasing (HHVBP) and their case-mix classification model, the Patient-Driven Groupings Model (PDGM) and you’ve got a competitive race as Medicare-certified home health agencies are going to find! Agencies are pitted against each other and given incentives for better quality care under the HHVBP while being forced to survive under the rate cuts and constant scrutiny of the PDGM model. CMS simultaneously seeks to enhance the current public reporting process and the outcome measures associated. January 2023 is the first month of the nationwide HHVBP rollout, but Florida was part of the “flying start” by being part of the demonstration project. Will that make a difference in Florida in the nationwide race? In this mega, dual-turbo presenter session, the HH Final Rule brief update to the rates and changes to the PDGM key components will be reviewed and analyzed. We will also review the pre-implementation reports from HHVBP and how agencies can use those moving forward and analyze how the HHVBP model affected outcome scores for every provider. Draft on Chris Attaya’s knowledge and interpretations from his heavy lifting and breakdown of statistical findings and benefit from his forecasts and guidance for your agency. Melinda Gaboury of Healthcare Provider Solutions will present her knowledgeable, very frank, and clear insights and suggestions on how to implement improvements within your agency and win the race.

2:50-3:05 PMAfternoon Break (refreshments provided)
3:05-3:45 PM

Home Care Legislative “Pit Crew” Panel Discussion

• Kyle Simon, Home Care Association of Florida

HCAF has gathered its legislative “pit crew” for a panel discussion to address the challenges currently facing Florida providers as well as strategies to increase reimbursement, reduce regulatory burdens, and ultimately strengthen the home care's “pole position” in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C.

3:45-4:00 PM

The Black & White Checkered Flag

• Bobby Lolley, Home Care Association of Florida
• Patti Heid, Home Care Association of Florida

The flagman waves the black-and-white checkered flag as Home Care Warm Up participants approach the finish line to mark the end of the race. In this final lap, join Bobby Lolley and Patti Heid as they reiterate key concepts and updates to take back to your agency, announce raffle prize winners, and close out the day.
