Denise Bellville, RN, BS, is HCAF's Executive Director. She has been a registered nurse for 45 years, working in critical care, emergency care, an open-heart surgical intensive care unit (SICU), and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before transitioning to the home care industry, where she has served as an executive for 30 years. Her clinical experience in home care includes pediatric and adult ventilator care, infusion therapy, and in-home peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) placements. Her favorite aspect of nursing has always been educating older adults and helping them reach their potential while remaining at home.
For Denise, nursing was a calling from an early age.
"I knew I wanted to be a nurse since I was five years old. The only thing I asked for that Christmas was a nurse's bag, and once I found it on Christmas day, I told my parents to just have Santa take everything else back."
That calling eventually led her to home care — and relationships that have lasted for decades.
“My introduction to home care involved a pediatric patient on a ventilator. The hospital asked if I could get her home, settled, and teach the family what they needed to know. Well, as you might suspect, I remained involved in her care for two years. My love of nursing has allowed me the opportunity to enter a stranger’s home and leave as a friend. Even after all these years, many of those new friends still invite me to family gatherings. It has been a career that has already lasted a lifetime.”
