You Can Make a Difference: Optimizing Respiratory Health for ALS Patients (Webinar)
Thursday, February 22, 2024 (1:00 PM - 2:00 PM) (EST)
Description
In this life-saving webinar, we will explore how each Allied Health professional and caregiver can take an active role in optimizing respiratory health for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patients and clients.
This webinar will help your organization to have the confidence to accept the next ALS patient referral. This program is fully intended for professionals who work with ALS patients infrequently. It will provide an overview of how respiratory health is impacted by ALS and ways the entire healthcare team can intervene to improve patients' quality of life through better respiratory function.
ALS is a rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It is a cruel disease that gradually paralyzes all voluntary muscles, robbing patients the ability to speak, eat, move, and eventually breathe. There is no cure for ALS yet with death resulting mainly from respiratory failure three to five years after symptom onset. As the exact underlying causative pathological pathway is unclear and potentially diverse, finding a suitable therapy to slow down or possibly stop disease progression remains challenging.
The ALS Association is urgently working towards making ALS a livable disease for everyone, everywhere, until we can cure it. You and your clinicians and caregivers can truly help make a difference and enhance quality of life for your patients and clients if you understand what to look for and interventions that you can implement on their behalf.
Sign up today for this webinar so you can learn what active role you and your team can take to optimize respiratory health for ALS patients. Additionally, receiving an ALS diagnosis is often a prolonged process, so this education will also assist your patients and clients who are experiencing mobility or breathing issues that have not yet been diagnosed with ALS too.
Please do not turn down referrals for patients and clients who have or may have ALS. They deserve to live at home if that’s what they and their families are wanting to do. Learn how you can help optimize their respiratory health and keep them from being forced to live in an institutional setting.
Learning Objectives:
