HCAF Leaders Advance Home Care Priorities at the Capitol
HCAF leaders were in Tallahassee this week, meeting with key policymakers and advocating for critical home care reforms. Executive Director Denise Bellville, Senior Director of Policy, Advocacy & Communications Kyle Simon, and contract lobbyists Jimmy Card and Gangul Gabadage of Continental Strategy spent March 10-12 at the Capitol building support for Senate Bill 1412 and House Bill 1353. This bipartisan legislation seeks to modernize outdated home health regulations, improve access to care, and reduce administrative burdens.
Key Meetings With Lawmakers
During their time in Tallahassee, HCAF's policy team met with:
- Representative Adam Anderson (R-Palm Harbor), chair of the House Health Facilities & Systems Subcommittee, where HB 1353 will receive its first hearing.
- Representative Gallop Franklin (D-Tallahassee), sponsor of HB 1353, and a senior aide to Senator Alexis Calatayud (R-Miami), sponsor of SB 1412, to discuss strategy and next steps.
- Staff directors of the Senate and House health care policy committees, ensuring that home care industry priorities remain at the forefront as these bills progress.
Additionally, HCAF leaders attended the House Health Facilities & Systems Subcommittee meeting, where HB 1529, legislation to reform the Family Home Health Aide program, passed unanimously in its first committee stop — a significant step forward for patients, families, and the home care provider community.
