HCAF Supports New Bipartisan Legislation: Energy Storage for Resilient Homes Act

Government Affairs & Advocacy

On July 18, 2024, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL) and Congresswoman Jenniffer González-Colón (R-PR) introduced the Energy Storage for Resilient Homes Act, a bipartisan bill that aims to allow Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster mitigation funding to be used for purchasing home energy storage batteries. This legislation is designed to help Americans power their homes during natural disasters, potentially saving lives and reducing costs.

HCAF is proud to support this bill, recognizing its potential to enhance the resilience and sustainability of homes, especially for seniors who rely on continuous power for medical equipment and other essential needs.

"As the voice for home care in Florida, HCAF strongly supports Congressman Frost's Energy Storage for Resilient Homes Act," said Denise Bellville, RN, BS, COS-C, Executive Director of HCAF. "This legislation is crucial for enhancing the resilience and sustainability of our homes, especially for our senior population. Home energy storage systems ensure that seniors have continuous access to essential power for medical equipment, communication devices, and other vital needs during emergencies. By providing financial assistance for these systems, this bill not only promotes seniors' safety and well-being but also supports their independence and desire to age in place. We commend Congressman Frost for his leadership on this important issue and are proud to endorse this legislation."
