AHCA Issues Reminder on October 1 CMS Plan Transition to Molina

Medicaid

The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has issued a reminder that operation of the Children’s Medical Services (CMS) Plan will transition from Sunshine State Health Plan, Inc. to Molina Healthcare of Florida, Inc., effective Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Home care providers serving CMS Plan enrollees should review the transition’s continuity-of-care protections, including requirements for existing services, continued access to providers, and reimbursement for non-participating providers.

Continuity of Care for Existing Services

According to AHCA’s September 25 alert, Molina will provide a continuity-of-care period of up to 240 days (eight months) to help prevent disruptions in services.

These protections apply to services authorized by Sunshine Health and documented courses of treatment that are in effect and being delivered as of October 1, 2026. Coverage under these protections continues until the earliest of the following:

  1. The existing authorization or course of treatment ends;
  2. The continuity-of-care period ends; or
  3. A new care plan is finalized and new services are authorized.

Provider Access and Reimbursement

Regardless of contracting status, enrollees may continue seeing their current providers until May 31, 2027, or until their new care plan is finalized and ongoing services are authorized, whichever occurs first.

Molina must reimburse non-participating providers at the rate they received for services rendered to enrollees before the transition for up to eight months, unless the provider and Molina agree to an alternative rate.

Providers should review affected patients’ authorizations and treatment documentation and contact Molina with questions about how the transition applies to their services.
