Florida HIE Launches New Training Opportunities as Statewide Transition Continues

Medicare Medicaid Private Care

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) has announced the launch of new training opportunities for the Florida Health Information Exchange (Florida HIE), beginning June 1, 2026.

The trainings coincide with Florida’s ongoing transition to a next-generation HIE platform powered by CRISP Shared Services and are designed to help providers, administrators, and operational teams successfully onboard, navigate new capabilities, and maximize participation in the statewide exchange network.

Unlike skilled nursing facilities, which are required to participate in the Florida HIE under state law, there is currently no Florida-specific requirement that home health agencies enroll in or utilize the Florida HIE. However, participation may offer significant operational and clinical benefits for agencies seeking to strengthen care coordination, improve transitions of care, and enhance access to patient information across the continuum.

Why This Matters to Home Health Agencies

Home health agencies frequently serve patients following hospitalizations, emergency department visits, skilled nursing facility stays, and other transitions in care. Timely access to patient information can support more effective admissions, improve communication with referral sources, and reduce delays in initiating services.

Participation in the Florida HIE may provide agencies with access to tools and services that support:

  • Improved coordination with hospitals, physicians, and other providers
  • More timely awareness of hospital admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Better visibility into patient health information across care settings
  • Reduced duplication of testing and administrative burden
  • Enhanced support for value-based care and care management initiatives
  • Alignment with broader interoperability efforts across the health care system

What is the Florida HIE?

Established in 2011, the Florida HIE facilitates the secure statewide exchange of health information among participating health care providers, facilities, practitioners, and payers.

The system is designed to improve care coordination and patient outcomes by enabling authorized providers to securely access and exchange health information in real time.

Key services include:

  • Encounter Notification Service (ENS) – Provides notifications when participating patients experience a hospital admission, discharge, or transfer event. These alerts can help agencies identify changes in patient status and support timely follow-up.
  • Patient Record Exchange – Allows participating organizations to access and share clinical information across connected providers and care settings.
  • Secure Information Sharing – Supports privacy-protected exchange of health information in compliance with federal and state requirements.

New Training Opportunities Available

As Florida transitions to the new CRISP-powered platform, AHCA and the Florida HIE have launched training opportunities to help providers understand available services and successfully integrate HIE tools into their operations.

Training topics include:

  • Florida HIE onboarding and transition guidance
  • Patient portal capabilities and workflows
  • Best practices for integrating HIE tools into daily operations
  • Available resources and support services

Additional information, training resources, and registration opportunities are available through the Florida HIE website.
