HCAF Federal Update: House Passes Shutdown Package Extending Telehealth and Hospital-at-Home Waivers
The U.S. House of Representatives today passed a package of bills ending the brief government shutdown and extending key health care flexibilities created during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Notably, the legislation:
- Extends federal telehealth waivers through December 31, 2027
- Extends the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver through September 30, 2030
Together, these extensions provide long-term certainty for care delivered in the home, preserving access for patients while giving providers the stability needed to plan, invest, and expand services.
The multi-year timelines support workforce planning and program growth and allow policymakers to continue evaluating outcomes across both telehealth and hospital-at-home models.
The House approved the package by a 217-214 vote and sent it to the White House for signature, bringing the four-day partial shutdown to a close.
HCAF will continue to monitor implementation and share updates — including guidance on retroactive application and operational impacts — as more details become available.
