U.S. House Unanimously Passes Bill Extending Hospital at Home Waiver to 2030

Medicare Medicaid Government Affairs & Advocacy

The U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed the Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act (H.R. 4313), extending the Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver through September 30, 2030. Sponsored by U.S. Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL), the bill aims to allow hundreds of hospitals — including many in Florida — to continue providing hospital-level care in patients’ homes. Congressman Buchanan highlighted the program’s ability to ease hospital strain, reduce costs, and improve recovery.

The bill has bipartisan co-sponsors, and advocates — including the American Telemedicine Association — praised the vote as a strong demonstration of support for a proven care model that improves outcomes and preserves hospital capacity. Hospitals and hospital-at-home providers had been pushing for a long-term extension after the waiver expired on September 30 during the government shutdown, forcing many programs to halt or scale back services.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for consideration. Please stay tuned for further updates and advocacy opportunities.
