In today's environment, where there are so many issues that require the attention of home health providers, preparing for surveys is often put on the back burner until the surveyor is just days away from walking through your agency's doors. In this two-part webinar series, Medicare-certified home health providers will learn how to prepare for surveys and how to remain survey-ready at all times. 

As part of the presentation, Sharon Litwin of Litwin Home Health Consulting will examine the regulations and the consequences of deficiencies outlined in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Conditions of Participation (CoPs) as well as the state of Florida's and accreditation bodies' standards. We will conduct a mock survey step-by-step, which will include a focus on what to look for during home visits. We will discuss various action plans agencies can implement before a surveyor visits in order to correct deficiencies. In addition, we will discuss how a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program can assist providers in achieving and maintaining compliance. Upon completion of the series, participants will be ready to conduct their own mock survey within their Medicare-certified home health agency, thereby establishing a path to continuous survey readiness, which is critical for achieving compliance during surveys as well as improving the quality of your agency.  

By attending this program, the active participant will: 

• Become familiar with key standards and regulations from federal, state, and accrediting bodies
• Be able to define the difference between standard-level deficiencies and condition-level deficiencies
• Understand what a surveyor will look at during a survey
• Have the ability to explain the survey process and conduct mock surveys within the organization
• Know how to develop an action plan for non-compliant areas within the organization
• Understand the importance of using a QAPI program as a means of maintaining survey readiness over time

Continuing Education

Meet the Speaker

Sharon Litwin, RN, BSHS, MHA, HCS-D, COQS, has had an extensive
career in home health, starting as a field nurse in 1985. Over the ensuing years, she held positions in California and Missouri as Director of Patient Services, Administrator, Regional Director, and Executive Director of a large hospital-based home services division.

In 2003, Sharon left the corporate world to create 5 Star Consultants, to utilize her knowledge in partnership with agencies in providing assistance and education to those in need. Since then, she has also been a CHAP and ACHC surveyor, performing Medicare-deemed accreditation surveys for 10 years. 

In 2020, she sold the company to Healthcare Provider Solutions and is now offering her expertise and knowledge to a limited number of clients in the industry. Sharon now lives in sunny Cape Coral, Florida, and is pleased to offer services through her new consulting agency, Litwin Home Health Consulting, LLC.
