AHCA Announces Contract Awards for the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Program
On April 12, 2024, the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) awarded six-year contracts to five health plans for the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care (SMMC) program:
- Florida Community Care received contracts for Medicaid regions A, B, C, D, and I, covering comprehensive long-term care plus, HIV/AIDS, and serious mental illness plans.
- Humana Medical Plan secured statewide contracts for comprehensive long-term care plus, HIV/AIDS, and serious mental illness specialty plans.
- Simply Healthcare Plans was granted statewide contracts for comprehensive long-term care plus, HIV/AIDS, and serious mental illness specialty plans.
- South Florida Community Care Network, operating as Community Care Plan, obtained contracts for Medicaid regions E, F, G, H, and I, focusing on comprehensive long-term care plus and serious mental illness plans.
- Sunshine State Health Plan was awarded statewide contracts covering comprehensive long-term care plus, HIV/AIDS, serious mental illness, and child welfare plans.
This decision marks a reduction from the current nine plans. Following the announcement, Aetna Better Health of Florida, AmeriHealth Caritas Florida, Florida Community Care, ImagineCare, Molina Healthcare of Florida, Sentara Care Alliance, South Florida Community Care Network, and UnitedHealthcare of Florida filed a notice of intent to contest the decision with AHCA.
The SMMC program serves approximately 3.4 million individuals. The consolidation of regions will impact enrollment opportunities for successful bidders. The contracts will be effective from October 1, 2024, through December 31, 2030.
