Draft OASIS-E Guidance Manual Now Available
Draft OASIS-E Guidance Manual Now Available
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a new manual that provides guidance for home health agencies on how to ensure the collection of accurate Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) data. It includes both general data collection conventions and item-specific guidance, as well as links to resources for providers. The updated OASIS-E All Items Instrument, which goes into effect on January 1, 2023, is available for download in the "Downloads" section of the OASIS User Manuals webpage. A log of changes since the last posting is also available.
Please note the instrument is not yet final. The federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval is required and expected later this year. In the meantime, the following are a variety of educational opportunities to get Medicare home health providers prepared.

As we have previously shared, this is the most intensive remake since Medicare first launched the assessment instrument in 1999. With the national rollout of the Home Health Value-Based Purchasing Model (HHVBP) and the first performance year in 2023, it will be even more critical to have a strong understanding of how to accurately complete the OASIS-E instrument.
